PERSISMA, Oujda (20 Juni 2013) – The particular interest granted by HM King Mohammed VI to the sector of handicraft and his will to make of this activity an engine of economic and social development, was reflected Thursday in Oujda when HM the King dedicated a center for vocational training in handicraft and launched the building of a handicraft integrated compound.

The two projects, requiring 24.3 million Dirhams in investments, are meant to promote handicraft and integrate this activity in the local and national economic structure, improve the social-economic conditions of craftsmen, upgrade the value of handicraft products and help regulate this industry.

The center for vocational training in handicraft, dedicated by the sovereign, will offer to young people vocational training adapted to the sector’s socio-economic reality, through training by tutoring and continuous training sessions for craftsmen.

The new center, carried out with an investment of 6.3 million DH, features sewing, ironworks and woodwork workshops, classrooms, a conference room, an exhibition hall, a library, a multi-usage room and administrative offices.

The integrated handicraft compound is poised to be a tool for promoting the sector, safeguarding cultural heritage, transmitting an authentic know-how and adapt handicraft products to the quality norms and market constraints.

The project will be completed in 14 months with an investment of 18 million Dirhams. It seeks to support and organize the region’s craftsmen for improved and diversified income and for upgraded products.

The three-storey building will feature an exhibition hall, shops as well as workshops, the head office of the handicraft chamber and of the regional directorate of handicraft.
