HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Malian Pres., chairs foundation stone laying ceremony to build perinatal clinic in Bamako

PERSISMA, Bamako (21/02/2014) – HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Malian president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, chaired, on Friday in Bamako, the foundation stone laying ceremony to build a modern and integrated perinatal clinic.

This clinic, to be built by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development on a surface area of 5 hectares (donated by the Malian State), will benefit the citizens in the city of Bamako and its region.

Details were given on this occasion to the sovereign on this clinic which is a reference at the tertiary level for maternity hospitals in the Bamako region, and which seeks to provide level 3 perinatal services, offer health care in cases of high risk pregnancies and decrease the rate of maternal and infant mortality.

The health facility, totaling 105 million dirhams, will include wards for intensive care and recovery for mothers, neonatal intensive care (critical cases requiring artificial ventilation) and neonatology.

As for medical imaging equipment, it will include radiology with a conventional ultrasound radio and scanner, angiography, a specialized laboratory, two operating rooms, four delivery rooms, and a reception room for accompanying families.

This clinic will have a capacity of 74 beds, 500 births per year with the possibility to perform up to 200 C-sections, 1,400 admissions yearly in intensive care for mothers and 470 admissions yearly in neonatology and neonatal intensive care.

This facility will be carried out within 18 months and will have 277 employees, including 164 of the medical and paramedical staff. Upon his arrival at the site, HM the King was greeted by Malian PM Oumar Tatam Ly and president delegate for the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development Mustapha Terrab.
