PERSISMA, Rabat – HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection, chaired, on Thursday in Rabat, the Foundation’s board of directors.

At the beginning of the meeting, Her Royal Highness lauded the work done and the tangible results achieved since the inception of the Foundation in June 2001.

After reviewing the results of the year 2017 and future prospects, the board approved the 2017 statements.

HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa’s concrete commitment to the environment and education for sustainable development, and her strong influence on the quality and progress of undertaken projects, represent considerable assets and largely explain the current positioning of the Foundation in Morocco and worldwide.

The board welcomed the appointment of Her Royal Highness as Goodwill Ambassador of the Congo Basin Climate Commission and the Congo Basin Blue Fund, which was set up by twelve countries in this region on March 9, 2017 in Oyo in the Republic of Congo.

HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa represented her foundation in several international events and gave keynote addresses, as in the World Environment Education Congress (WEEC) in September 2017 in Vancouver, Canada and the Women’s Forum in Toronto in May 2018.

Clean Beaches, which is in its 18th edition, was relaunched with the assistance of the Interior Ministry and the Directorate General of Local Authorities. It has resulted in management and training tools, and a major campaign in the summer of 2018, via commercials on national TV channels and awareness-raising messages on radios.

In 2017, the Eco-Schools program was extended to preschools, with the generalization of preschool education that HM the King has just launched in July 2018.

As for the Air-Climate program, it focused this year on territories, with Marrakesh as a pilot city, where a carbon footprint and the introduction of electric mobility, a first in Morocco, are under way.

The Foundation manages nearly twenty programs in six areas of intervention: environmental education, the coast, air and climate, sustainable tourism, Marrakesh palm grove preservation and development, and parks and historical gardens.
