Sahara, Morocco ready to continue to support process of negotiations: official
PERSISMA, New York – Morocco’s Ambassador to the UN, Mohamed Loulichki, reiterated on Monday in New York, the “readiness of Morocco to continue to support the process of negotiations in respect of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and its national unity.”
”It is in this spirit that Morocco endorses the new approach of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Sahara, Christopher Ross, who is on a current visit in the region”, said Ambassador Loulichki before the 4th UN Commission.
”The Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General is on tour in our area that will take him to Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania,” with the aim to “give an impetus to the dynamics of negotiation to help the parties and neighboring States find a political solution, “said the ambassador.
”He aspires to launch a new diplomatic approach centered on the notion of compromise. Morocco supports the efforts of the Personal Envoy and his new approach”, he said, noting that “Morocco has already contributed to it through its autonomy initiative.”
The ambassador expressed hope that the Personal Envoy “will finally be supported by the other parties’ readiness and will to break the current impasse and open a real prospect of a solution that people in Tindouf camps are looking forward to, to regain their dignity and freedom within modern and democratic Morocco.”
With regard to the issue of human rights raised by the South African delegation, the ambassador said that the UNSC has “welcomed the establishment of the National Council for Human rights (CNDH) and the work done on the matter, and recalled that Morocco cooperates with the human rights mechanisms of the UN.”
On MINURSO, Loulichki noted that six other UN missions do not have the components of Human Rights.
