PERSIAMA, Bamako (21/02/2014) – HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Malian president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, handed, on Friday in Bamako, a donation of bovine semen for the benefit of Malian breeders.

The donation, granted by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development, is made up of 125,000 doses of bovine semen as well as five boxes for artificial insemination and five containers for semen storage with six canisters. The equipment includes also five storage containers for liquid nitrogen, 200,000 palpation gloves and 100,000 insemination ducts.

The setting up of this artificial insemination program, worth 3 million dirhams, will be ensured by a Moroccan technical assistance team. The Moroccan-Malian cooperation to develop the bovine sector in Mali is based on three elements namely the training of inseminator technicians in Morocco, the creation of five artificial insemination centers near breeders’ groupings and the support for professional organizations for the management of the artificial insemination program.

As part of the setting up of the said program, the donation of the Morocco-produced bovine semen, under biological and hygienic supervision, was carried in containers to Bamako. Under this program, the Moroccan experts will assist Malian technicians to choose cattle to be inseminated, apply an artificial insemination and monitor inseminated cows.

In the medium term, this program seeks to produce F1 and F2 genetically-improved females that match the performances of Morocco and Europe, increase milk production and boost breeders’ income. Upon his arrival, HM the King was greeted by Malian PM Oumar Tatam Ly and president delegate for the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development Mustapha Terrab.
