PERSISMA, Rabat – Moroccan auto racer Mehdi Bennani won the opening race at the Hungaroring circuit for Sébastien Loeb Racing in Hungary on Sunday from pole position.

Despite the difficult conditions of the racing field, the Moroccan racer managed to drive safely with the help of his good choice of tires.

Bennani, driving a Citroen, occupied the lead from the start with a highly accomplished victory, his second in WTCC and his first since 2014.

Rain had been falling throughout the morning, easing off just in the two hours before the race, creating a difficult decision for the teams.

Tom Chilton, Bennani’s team member for Sébastien Loeb Racing, came in second place, followed by the Dutch racer Nicky Catsburg.
