Gambia: it is time to give chance to peace by endorsing Moroccan autonomy plan

PERSISMA, New York – Gambia called, Friday at the UN headquarters in New York, for giving a chance to peace by endorsing the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara which is “an appropriate solution to end the conflict.”

This came in the speech by Gambia’s ambassador Mamadou Tangara before the 4th committee of the UNGA.

Gambia “welcomes and supports” this initiative which is a “serious, realistic and credible” framework to guarantee peace, security and development in the region.

The ambassador also expressed “concern about the situation of populations in the Tindouf camps”, stressing the need to conduct a headcount by the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in accordance with international law and the latest resolutions of the Security Council.
