HM the King endeavours to uphold the message of tolerant Islam, FM says
PERSISMA, New York (United Nations) – In his capacity as Commander of the Faithful, HM the King has always endeavoured to uphold the message of conciliatory, fraternal and tolerant Islam, Moroccan Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri said on Thursday.
The Minister, who was speaking at the high level meeting to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, added that the message is based on dialogue, mutual respect, and moderation as a means to strengthen friendly rapprochement between nations in order to promote the pacific settlement of conflicts, peace, stability and good neighbourliness.
In this regard, he said that since its independence, Morocco was committed to promoting and defending human rights with regard to their universality, indivisibility and interdependence.
Morocco’s successive constitutions, he went on, endorse the principle of equality between men and women in all fields, noting that the new constitution, adopted following a referendum in last July, confirms Morocco’s irreversible choice for “the development of a united society where prevail security, liberty, equal opportunities, and social justice.”
Fassi Fihri also highlighted the various reforms initiated by Morocco to adapt its domestic legislation to the provisions of international instruments in terms of racism, racial discrimination and religious intolerance.
He noted that the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action is a significant step to remobilize the international community against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.
