HM the King visits Simao Mendes hospital in Bissau, enquires about Moroccan medical aid to Guinea-Bissau

PERSISMA, Bissau – HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Guinea-Bissau’s president José Mario Vaz, visited, on Friday, the national Simao Mendes hospital where the sovereign enquired about the medical aid granted by Morocco to reinforce and improve access to health care in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

HM the King was greeted at his arrival by health minister El Houssaine Louardi.

On this occasion, technical data on the medical aid were given to HM the King and Guinea-Bissau’s president.

The aid is composed of 31 tons of medicines to provide medical care for tuberculosis patients and antiretroviral drugs. It also consists of organizing operations for trachoma screening and treatment and cataract surgery.

It is divided into antiretroviral drugs to treat 1100 patients as part of HIV triple therapy and drugs for 3750 patients with herpes virus infections.

It also includes tuberculosis medicines (around one million pills) to treat 5000 cases, as well as medical material and medicines for general practice(antibiotics, painkillers).

Afterwards, the two leaders visited the hospital’s wards where the Moroccan medical team is working. Details were given to the sovereign and Guinea-Bissau’s president concerning the trachoma screening and treatment operations which is targeting 5000 people (including drugs), as well as cataract surgeries for 1000 patients.
