MRC, Morocco to Exchange Water Resource Development and Management Experiences

PERSISMA – The Mekong River Commission (MRC) on Jun 29 signed in Vientiane a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kingdom of Morocco. As part of South – South cooperation, Morocco is the first Arabian and African partner of the MRC.

The partnership translates the vision of the King of Morocco towards diversifying cooperation at all levels to achieve sustainable, active and solidarity-based development, according to the MRC.

This partnership will foster exchanges and cooperation in water resource development and management through sharing of available technical expertise and lessons learned by both parties.

Some of the common interests of both parties range from energy to agriculture and food security to water quality.

Driven by a shared interest in sustainable water resources development and management, the collaboration aims to ultimately promote and enhance public safety and community welfare by fostering research and promoting, encouraging and advancing safer, more economical, efficient, and environmentally-sound systems for water resource development and management.

The MoU was signed by Chief Executive Officer of the Mekong River Commission, Pham Tuan Phan, and Ambassador of his Majesty the King of Morocco to Thailand, Abdelilah El Housni. The MoU was agreed to by the MRC Joint Committee in April 2017.

The Government of Morocco will invite the MRC to Morocco for an experience-sharing visit and discussion with relevant agencies for the preparation of a concrete set of joint activities in the future to implement the MoU.
