Sahara: FM of Barbados Describes Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative as Credible, Serious and Realistic
PERSISMA, Rabat – Foreign Minister of Barbados Jerome Walcott described on Friday Morocco’s autonomy initiative to solve the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara as “credible, serious and realistic”.
It is an initiative that is credible, serious and realistic to find a political solution based on realism and the spirit of compromise under the territorial integrity of Morocco, in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council, Walcott said at a joint press briefing with Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom with a large delegation, and Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
In this context, the government of Barbados, which froze its recognition of the fake SADR 2013, decided this Friday to withdraw its recognition of this entity, he added, affirming that his country will continue actions already undertaken by more than 162 countries around the world.
He further urged all parties to continue negotiations in good faith to maintain the momentum initiated by the Moroccan plan of autonomy.
On another note, he announced his country’s exemption of visas for Moroccans.
Walcott described as successful the talks with Moroccan officials during the working visit of the Prime Minister of Barbados to the Kingdom, which was crowned by the signing of a triennial bilateral cooperation roadmap for 2019-2021 and a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a political consultation mechanism.
