PERSISMA, Morocco – Mayor of the city of Al Hoceima and chairman of the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Municipal Councils (AMPCC), Mohamed Boudra was elected, on Friday in Durban, President of the Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG-World).

The candidate of Africa was elected by consensus following the withdrawal of Russian candidate, Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin.

The election of Mr. Boudra for the 2019-2022 period took place at the end of the 6th Congress of UCLG and World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders held in Durban Nov.11-15.

The choice of Morocco to chair this global organization, which has more than 240,000 member cities and local authorities, is a strong recognition of the multisectoral structural actions and development projects initiated by King Mohammed VI over the past two decades, in favor of decentralization, spatial justice, social equity and the promotion of solidarity values in sustainable development in all regions of Morocco, particularly in the Northern Provinces of Morocco.

This victory is a new consecration of Morocco at the global level that welcomes the development actions initiated by King Mohammed VI for his country, but also in favor of Africa, finally free of choice.
