HM King Mohammed VI left Morocco for Senegal

PERSISMA – HM King Mohammed VI left Morocco, on Friday MARCH 15, 2013, for Dakar for an official visit to Senegal, first leg of an African tour that will take the sovereign to Ivory Coast and Gabon.

Upon his arrival at the Léopold Sédar Senghor airport, HM the King was greeted by Senegalese president Macky Sall, speaker of Senegal’s national assembly Moustapha Niasse, prime minister Abdoul Mbaye, president of the economic and social council Aminata Tall, state minister and director of the president’s office Mor Ngom and the chief of staff of Senegalese armed forces.

The President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, urged, Thursday night, the Senegalese to offer HM King Mohammed VI, who will pay an official visit to Senegal on Friday, an exceptional welcome. “The Head of State urged the population of Dakar to offer an exceptional welcome matching the strong relations between the two countries to His Majesty Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, who will arrive in Dakar on Friday, March 15, 2013, for a few-day visit,” the Senegalese Council of Ministers meeting in Dakar on Thursday under the chairmanship of Macky Sall said in a statement.

President Macky Sall underlined that the Moroccan-Senegalese ties are not only long-standing, they are exceptional.

In a statement to MAP before the arrival of HM King Mohammed VI in Dakar for an official visit to Senegal, the Senegalese Head of State stressed that “it is a great honor for Senegal to welcome His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, a friend of Senegal.”

“The visit by the King fills us with happiness and joy, we wish to strengthen relations which are already excellent between the two countries,” the Senegalese president said.

There is a perfect converegence of views between Senegal and Morocco with regard to the Moroccan proposal for the settlement of the Sahara issue, Senegalese Foreign Minister Mankeur Ndiaye said Thursday in Dakar.

“The position of Senegal on the Sahara issue is steady, unchanging. Senegal’s position on the Sahara issue is simply the same as that of Morocco. The solution to this issue is that proposed by Morocco,” Ndiaye told MAP on the occasion of the official visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Senegal.

At the United Nations we work with the Moroccan delegation each year within the 4th Committee on the Sahara issue, he said.

“Within all international bodies we work with Morocco. Recently in Addis Ababa, Senegal expressed, at the summit of the African Union, its disagreement with a certain position,” he said, insisting thqt his country’s “position remains constant and unchanged.”

HM the King delivered an address during the official dinner hosted, Friday in Dakar, by the Senegalese president Macky Sall in honour of the Sovereign who is pating an official visit to Senegal, as part of an African tour including Côte d’Ivoire and Gabon.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI received, on Tuesday in the Royal Residence in Dakar, Amadou Mokhtar M’Bow, president of the Moroccan-Senegalese friendship circle.

During this audience, M’Bow was accompanied by the first vice-president of the circle, Minister of Economy and Finance of Senegal, Amadou Kane, the second vice president of the circle, former ambassador of Senegal to Morocco and to the United Nations, Massamba Sarre, member of the circle, economic operator and former director of the office of the President of Senegal, Samba Ba, member of the Circle, economic operator in Dakar, Abdeljalil Benjelloun Touimi, and Secretary General of the Circle, economic operator in Dakar, Mohamed Lahlou.

HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, received, on Tuesday at the Royal Residence in Dakar, abbot Alphonse Seck, vicar-general of Dakar’s archdiocese, representative of Dakar’s Archbishop. This audience was attended by minister of Endowment and Islamic Affairs Ahmed Toufiq.
