HM the King chairs ceremony of setting up high authority in charge of national dialogue on reform of the judiciary

PERSISMA, Casablanca – HM King Mohammed VI presided, on Tuesday at the Royal Palace in Casablanca, over the ceremony of setting up the high authority in charge of the national dialogue on the reform of the judiciary.

In a speech on this occasion, HM the King stressed the importance of the judiciary reform as “one of our country’s key reform projects.”

“I firmly believe justice lies at the heart of governance systems that are based on institutions and the rule of law, and it is my role to make sure the rule of law is upheld and to promote investment and development,” the Monarch underscored. Recalling the broad line of the reform set out in the Royal message to the nation on 20 August 2009, HM the King said that he ensured the new Constitution guarantees the independence of the judicial branch – which is separate from the legislative and the executive branches.

The Sovereign also stressed the effectiveness of the inclusive and participatory approach used so far in all major reforms, adding that this high authority includes representatives of all constitutional bodies and government and judicial sectors as well as civil society organizations along with all the stakeholders concerned by the judicial reform.

After having expressed appreciation to the members of this institution, HM the King voiced hope that “they will join efforts and work together in this national endeavor”.

In this respect, the Monarch invited all the stakeholders concerned to play an active part in the forthcoming national dialogue.

“Our common goal is to draw up a national charter with precise objectives, specific priorities and programs, and clear financing, implementation and assessment mechanisms.”

Afterwards, HM the King was greeted by the members of the high authority in charge of the national dialogue on the reform of the judiciary. A reception was hosted on this occasion in honor of the members of this esteemed institution with the attendance of the Head of Government, Speakers of the Parliament’s Lower and Upper Houses, Advisors to HM the King and cabinet members.
