HM the King Inaugurates in Marrakech Two Community Sport Projects with Strong Social Value Added
PERSISMA, Marrakech – HM King Mohammed VI inaugurated, on Thursday in Marrakech, the indoor Semi-Olympic swimming pool “Sidi Youssef Ben Ali” and community fields “Askjour”, two community-based sport projects with a strong social value added for an amount of around 31 million dirhams (excluding the land).
A new example of the monarch’s solicitude for sport and youth, these projects will offer a place for entertainment, relaxation and training for young people and contribute to their socialization and blossoming in the best possible conditions of coaching and security.
Built over a surface area of 4,357 m2, the new swimming pool, constructed near the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali stadium, has a semi-Olympic pool (6 lanes), terraces (200 seats), a fitness room, changing rooms, an infirmary, a coffee shop, a reception area and a management office.
This swimming pool, which meets international standards in terms of energy efficiency and water saving, will enable young people to benefit from an adequate facility to exercise and enhance their talents, will contribute to the revitalization of sport associations, and will encourage the emergence of new athletes able to compete nationally and internationally.
The result of a partnership between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Commune of Marrakech, this project is part of a program that also provides for the construction of five community indoor pools in other neighborhoods for 70 mln MAD.
One of the said five pools called “M’Hamid” is nearing completion with a rate of 98%, while the construction of the others will be launched shortly with a 15-month deadline for completion.
The second project inaugurated by the Sovereign today is the “Askjour”community fields. It involves the development of 10 artificial turf football fields, race tracks, a children’s playground, green areas, a cafeteria, an infirmary, and changing rooms.
With a total surface area of 20,000 m2, this project was carried out under a partnership between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the commune of Marrakech.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is carrying out, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Communal Equipment Fund and the concerned Provincial Councils, a national program for the construction of 832 social and sport community complexes, for an amount of 600 mln MAD.
This program, which will span 36 months, touches on the construction and equipment of community lands in rural and Peri-urban communes in the different regions of the Kingdom, notably Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (70), Souss-Massa (149), Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (45), Marrakech-Safi (171), the eastern region (41), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (13), Guelmim-Oued Noun (42), Fez-Meknes (71), Draa-Tafilalet (72), Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (22), Casablanca-Settat (43), and Beni Mellal-Khenifra (93).
