PERSISMA, Juba – HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by HH Prince Moulay Ismail and the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, visited on Thursday the John Garang Mausoleum in Juba, where the Sovereign laid a wreath of flowers in memory of South Sudan’s founding father.

John Garang, who was born in 1945, reached a peace accord that gave southern Sudan a referendum on secession in 2011 and created a government of national unity.

He briefly served as First Vice President of Sudan from July 9, 2005 until his death in a helicopter crash on July 30, 2005.

At the end of this visit, the Sovereign signed the Mausoleum’s Golden Book.
