HM the King Visits Locodjro Unloading Building Site, Examines Progress of Grand Lahou’s
PERSISMA, Abidjan – HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by vice-president of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire Daniel Kablan Duncan, visited, on Thursday, the Locodjro Developed Unloading Building Site (north of Abidjan) and examined the progress of the Grand Lahou’s unloading site which is still under construction (150km west of Abidjan).
The sovereign’s personal supervision of the progress of these projects mirrors the continuous royal commitment to ameliorating the living conditions of the African citizens, fighting poverty and precariousness, and promoting the Moroccan-Ivorian cooperation and friendship to make it a model of an active and strong south-south partnership.
Real hubs of socio-economic development, the future unloading sites will contribute to promoting the sector of small-scale fishing through the organization and supervision of the trade, the upgrading of the product’s quality, the promotion of the lifestyle of small-scale fishermen, female wholesale fish merchants, and female fish smokers and dryers.
They will also help generate new jobs, optimize the economic performance of small-scale fishing, increase the income of the beneficiaries (over 7,000 people), and ameliorate health and hygiene conditions with the aim of achieving a sustainable and integrated human development.
Funded by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development and the agriculture ministry, with the facilitation of Attijariwafa Bank, the two projects (56.5 mln MAD) will include appropriated equipment meeting international standards, mainly fish covered markets, ice factories, cold rooms, halls for fish cutting, cleaning, smoking, and storing as well as medical branches and day care centers for the female beneficiaries’ children.
Three similar developed unloading sites are under way, notably two in Conakry and one in Dakar.
