PERSISMA, Addis Ababa – Malian Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and African Integration Abdoulaye Diop reiterated on Saturday in Addis Ababa his country’s support for Morocco’s return to the African Union (AU).

“At the level of the African Union, the Republic of Mali welcomed the request of the Kingdom of Morocco”, a brotherly and friendly country, Diop told reporters on the sidelines of the 28th African Union Summit.

The Malian official recalled that Morocco has ratified the AU Constitutive Act, noting that the Kingdom has always maintained good relations with African countries.

The return of Morocco to the AU will contribute to the strengthening of relations between the AU member countries, he said, adding that the Kingdom’s return will also consolidate the continent’s “cohesion and maturity” in order to find African solutions to the challenges facing Africa.

Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, will host the 28th African Union summit on January 30-31.
