PERSISMA, Dakar, May 22, 2015 – The autonomy initiative put forward by Morocco as a lasting solution to the Sahara issue evidences “good will” said Senegal’s Foreign Minsiter Mankeur Ndiaye.
Ndiaye, who was speaking to MAP on the occasion of the visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Dakar, reiterated Senegal’s “natural support” for Morocco’s autonomy proposal adding that the Kingdom undertook “considerable efforts” to find a lasting settlement to the Sahara issue.
Reaffirming Senegal’s “unwavering” support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, Ndiaye said that Morocco’s autonomy proposal mirrors willingness to resolve the issue by granting large autonomy to the southern provinces under Moroccan sovereignty.
In this respect, he pointed out to UN Security Council decisions, notably resolution 2218 which described Morocco’s efforts as “serious and credible”.
