PERSISMA – Catalan investment has slowed down since 2008, the year when they achieved 90% of Spanish investments in Morocco. Note that these statistics do not account for cross-investment, that is to say, for example those from a subsidiary located in another Catalan region. The capital increases are not included.

THE Catalan companies are seeking business opportunities in Morocco. Arthur Mas, president of the region, one of the richest in Europe, will travel on Tuesday, February 28 to March 3. A meeting is scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 28 with the bosses and a seminar will be held on Thursday 1st March. Accompanied by a large delegation of businessmen, Arthur Mas will use the visit to inaugurate the plant Relats, the Spanish giant specializing in the design and manufacture of electrical insulating pipes and ducts free mechanical protection in Tangier area. The Spanish group sets foot in Morocco with an investment of 35 million dirhams.

The visit comes at a time when “big deals”, as some sources point out, are being negotiated. An investment agreement with the group for Bamesa set up a plant in Tangier free zone would be considered. In any case, discussions are underway with the company specializing in automotive equipment.

Northern Morocco, especially Tangier area

Med offers new investment opportunities for Catalan companies, particularly those working in the automotive industry. Many OEMs have also installed in the wake of Renault project. This meeting between Moroccan businessmen and their Catalan counterparts will also “sell” the various sectoral plans, and Emerging Green Morocco among others.

It must be said, Morocco has many Catalan investments in diversified sectors. Some will soon start their activity as is the case of Applus + group Aguas de Barcelona to Casablanca.

Considered one of the richest regions of Spain, Catalonia has participated in 25% in the country’s exports in 2011. This region contains nearly 34% of exporting companies in Spain and a quarter of its industries. Its diversified economic fabric allows compensatory effects. Besides services and traditional industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food processing, this region is also facing biotechnology, renewable energy and nanotechnology.
